Salt Theater chooses projects that lend themselves to experimentation, that have modern relevance, and that have epic possibilities – either in content, scope, or in scale. With these interests in mind, we seek out both classical and original pieces; we are as interested in commissioning new work as we are in reinvigorating familiar plays. In our extended workshop process – most of our productions take a year from start to finish - we examine the theatricality of each piece, allowing the actors and designers to work together to uncover each pieces’ unique aesthetic vocabulary.

The company does not choose a season – instead we move from project to project, presenting work at various stages of the process. We believe that we learn the most about theater when we see it in front of an audience; our long process is a revision of the "out of town tryout." These work-in-progress showings have a huge impact on where, when and how we move a piece forward.
